Jota's Return Sparks Celtic Revival with Victory at Motherwell

Jota's Return Sparks Celtic Revival with Victory at Motherwell
After weeks of turmoil, Celtic fans experienced a much-needed lift following their victory at Fir Park on Sunday. Coming off three consecutive defeats, including two against their rivals Rangers, the team rebounded with a convincing 2-0 win over struggling Motherwell, reclaiming the top spot in the Scottish Premiership. Camilo Duran opened the scoring early, setting the tone for the match, while Benjamin Nygren secured the win with a second-half goal. But the real highlight of the day was the return of Jota, who made his much-anticipated comeback after nearly 18 months sidelined with injury. The Portuguese winger played a vital role in the post-match celebrations, bringing joy back to the Celtic camp. Entering the match as a substitute in the 74th minute, Jota quickly demonstrated his impact, nearly assisting a goal with his first touches. "I was waiting on this for a long time," he shared with Sky Sports. "Just happy to be back. I’ve been working hard, and the guys have been helping me as well. It was just the normal nerves, but once I stepped on the pitch, everything went well." Reflecting on the emotional toll of his lengthy absence, Jota expressed, "Imagine if someone takes away your child; that’s how I felt. I found my child again today, and I want to keep it for as long as I can. I’m ready to play more and help the team. I know what I can do." The jubilant atmosphere at full-time was a stark contrast to the recent gloom surrounding the club. Prior to the international break, Celtic faced criticism, and even their majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond, was the focus of protests at a golf tournament. Manager Martin O’Neill had even questioned his future after the team’s poor performances against Rangers but ultimately decided to remain at the helm. Former Scotland defender Willie Miller commented on the immense pressure O'Neill faces, especially after losses to their fiercest rivals. But it seems the manager has regained his confidence with this latest victory. O’Neill acknowledged the noise surrounding the team, stating, "Of course, there was a lot of noise, and much of it we brought on ourselves. It’s nice to win. We have to accept the criticism after losing three matches in a week, but we fought back today. Let’s see what Thursday brings." Looking ahead, Celtic faces a significant challenge with Portuguese giants Benfica awaiting them in the Europa League. Following that, they will host Hearts, a team that Benfica recently thrashed. While Celtic missed a plethora of scoring opportunities against Motherwell, with the opposing goalkeeper making an impressive 12 saves, O’Neill remained optimistic about his team’s performance. "We had a lot of chances, and we could have scored more," he remarked. "The first goal was crucial, a fantastic effort by Camilo that settled us down. I’m delighted with the win and the energy we showed. It’s a huge psychological boost to play as well as we did and climb back to the top of the table."
