Scottish Premiership Returns: What’s Next for Hibs and the Title Contenders?

Scottish Premiership Returns: What’s Next for Hibs and the Title Contenders?
After what seems like an eternity, the Scottish Premiership is ready to roar back to life this Saturday. The recent international break felt like a mini off-season, just as the league was heating up. But now, all 12 teams are eager to resume their battles on the pitch. For Rangers, the break may have been a bit of a double-edged sword. After stringing together six impressive wins, Derek McInnes’ squad could use the rest. Yet, they’ll need to work hard to regain their rhythm against Kilmarnock, who are determined to break their away goal drought at Ibrox. Kilmarnock arrives with some momentum, having secured a win against Hibernian and drawing with Aberdeen and last season’s runners-up, Hearts. The clash between former teammates McInnes and Kilmarnock’s Neil McCann promises to be an intriguing showdown. Meanwhile, Hibs have a fresh face at the helm as Marink Reedijk takes charge for the first time, facing Dundee United on the road. Although he may have preferred a home debut, he can expect decent support at Tannadice. Currently sitting just above the relegation zone, Reedijk is stepping into a challenging situation without the benefit of a transfer window, having joined the club just last month. The squad left by David Gray boasts solid Premiership experience and some promising young talent, including striker Owen Elding. What kind of football can fans expect from the 35-year-old Reedijk? He’s promised a style that’s “brave, intense, and committed,” and all eyes in Leith will be watching closely. Meanwhile, Hearts are looking to shake off recent disappointments, having suffered a loss to Falkirk and a draw against Kilmarnock. It’s not quite a crisis for Wouter Vrancken’s side, but they’ll want to get back on track against St Mirren at Tynecastle. St Mirren started the season strong but have stumbled in their last three outings. The pressure is on them too as they sit just three points behind Hearts, who are eager to extend their lead. Dundee, fresh from a morale-boosting win against Motherwell, will travel to face Falkirk, who are also showing signs of recovery after a shaky start to the season. On another front, Celtic is in need of a turnaround after losing three consecutive matches, including tough defeats to Rangers. Still, they sit two points clear at the top and will be eyeing a much-needed win over Motherwell on Sunday. This match is critical not just for league momentum but also as a precursor to their upcoming Europa League clash against the formidable Benfica. Motherwell themselves are struggling, having lost their last three, but one good performance could turn their fortunes around. Finally, Sunday’s action wraps up with Aberdeen hosting St Johnstone at Pittodrie. Both teams sit on eight points, with St Johnstone slightly ahead on goal difference. Both sides head into the match in decent form, with Aberdeen unbeaten in four and St Johnstone recently snatching a late equalizer against Falkirk. With at least one of Hearts or St Mirren likely to drop points, there’s a real opportunity for either Aberdeen or St Johnstone to climb the table this weekend.
