Thierno Barry: Everton Star Opens Up About Emotional Journey
Thierno Barry, the Everton forward, recently shared a deeply personal video of himself in tears, a moment that took him three weeks to post. It's not often you see a top-flight footballer in such a vulnerable state, but Barry felt compelled to show this side of himself. In a candid chat at the club's training ground, Barry explained his initial fears about sharing the footage, which features him breaking down during a private training session. "I was really scared about posting that. But I thought, 'No, I just need to show myself.' Last season, I wasn't truly me, and I want people to understand who I really am," he shared. The 23-year-old's video candidly depicts his frustration with his performance, culminating in tears as he steps away from training. Thankfully, his teammates were there to support him. Reflecting on the experience, Barry noted, "Sometimes it feels good to just lose it." After sitting on the footage for weeks, he finally decided to let it out. Barry expressed a sense of relief in unveiling this emotional moment, explaining, "It's the first time I cried in front of my friends; they always see me as strong. I want them to know I care about the club and my performance." Making the leap from Villarreal to Everton for £27 million was no small feat for Barry, who acknowledges the pressure that comes with being a new signing. The club even shared his video, highlighting the theme of "emotional resilience," and fans flooded the comments with messages of support. Barry appreciates the encouragement from those around him, saying, "The people around me helped a lot because I'm really hard on myself. I just need to learn to be more positive." Despite the pressure he places on himself, Barry isn't afraid to show his emotions. "I want to show that I'm strong, and I'm not scared to reveal that side of me. That's why I posted this video," he explained. He also talked about the challenges of adjusting to a new club and league, describing the experience as "really difficult." The Premier League is known for its intensity, and Barry is determined to let his authentic self shine through. Last season, he struggled with eight goals in 41 appearances, but this year he's already netted six. "People might say I miss chances, but I also create a lot," he defended himself. He understands the weight of expectations from fans, especially after a three-month goal drought last season. After scoring against Hull last weekend, Barry took to Instagram to express that he's still learning. "This season, it’s easier to switch my mindset because I know I have time on the pitch. When I miss a chance, I know I’ll get another opportunity soon," he said, acknowledging the pressure he feels in those moments. On the pitch, Barry is also enjoying himself again, even resurrecting celebrations like the dab and hip swings. As he enters his second year with Everton, he maintains focus and determination. When asked about a potential call-up to the French national team, he remained humble. "I haven't thought about that much because it feels far away. I just focus on doing my job; if something happens, it happens."
